With steampunk, most stone should be brown (grey is okay, but it should be a dark grey and used sparingly), most metal should be copper or gold (with occasional steel), and lighting should be yellow or brown and dim in most places. Lots of rust (and steam, obviously), and don't hesitate to use wood in places that should probably have metal.
