I don’t even know how many zeros are in a billion dollars, man. [Laughs] Just to be tied to it with my likeness and my voice, that’s something that’ll go down in history with me. My grandchildren and my great grandchildren will see that. It’s like a historical moment for me, so it’s a good feeling. Steven Ogg (Trevor): Yeah, it’s pretty wild. I’m not a gamer and I’m not into that world, so I don’t know much about it. Obviously, doing it for three years I got to learn more about it, and I understand how huge it could be, but honestly it wasn’t until the release that I really got it. Even before the financial end of it, which I can’t grasp, seeing trucks in Tokyo with my face on them or the billboards in Brooklyn that were being hand-painted with Trevor’s face. That’s when the magnitude of this game started to sink in. It is a global thing. GQ: Ned, your son is eleven years old. Did he flip out when you told him you were going to be in Grand Theft Auto V? Ned Luke (Michael): He’s not going to play the game until he’s in college. [Laughs] GQ: But I’m sure he’s heard of it. He knows it’s a big deal. Ned Luke (Michael): Yeah, he knows it. All his buddies have it. I let him do a few missions with the sound off. [Laughs] But, yeah, he’s so thrilled. He thinks it’s the coolest thing ever. GQ: Steven, what about your son? Steven Ogg (Trevor): No, no. We’ve got copies of it and he wants to play it, but he’s just too young. The funny thing is, I’m from western Canada and my nephew is old enough to play it and he now has street cred. I’m like, “Really? Street cred in Alberta? What the fuck is that? What does that get you? A great Alberta Beef Burger or a twelve pack of maple donuts?” [Laughs] GQ: Shawn, in your TMZ interview you mentioned that Franklin is you and you are Franklin. How do you guys relate to each other? Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): [Laughs] We relate tremendously, man. I feel like changing my name to Franklin. Everything he’s doing, I’ve done it. I don’t want to put myself out there on blast, but I’ve done it. I’m an ex-gang member. I’m an ex-thief. I’m an ex-car stealer. I’ve done it. I know what it feels like to be on both sides of the gun, go to jail, et cetera. We’re tied together forever. GQ: What about you, Steven? You’re not crazy, right? You’re not totally Trevor, are you? Steven Ogg (Trevor): I like to call it a crazy little thing called… acting. [Laughs] It’s one of those forgotten arts in this culture. There’s a lot of talk nowadays about how “acting is you, you are who you are” but no, it’s acting. That’s my job. That’s what I do for a living. I’m an actor. [Laughs] GQ: Were there any concerns about working on game that’s gotten some criticism about its violence and treatment of women? Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): Nah, not at all. It has to be treated the same way as the movies. Scarface. Boardwalk Empire. You see all the same stuff that’s happening in these games in comic books and TV shows. It’s just a script. We’re having fun. They have to treat this the same as they treat the movies. Ned Luke (Michael): GTA is what it is. Anybody that expects anything different is fooling themselves. I love women. I’m crazy about them. I have a beautiful wife, who’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, and I teach my son to respect women and other people’s position in the world, whatever it is.…People are always looking for something to hate on. If this is something for them to target and hate on, that’s their thing. I look at it as satire. GQ: Is there a stigma attached when you do voice work for video games versus film or TV work? Steven Ogg (Trevor): I want to take “voice acting” and send it up to space.…this was a motion capture performance. This was not me sitting in my underwear in a booth watching some character that was like Trevor and saying my lines. No. That was me up there in my motion capture suit with the camera directly in my face and the light in my eyes. It’s a huge thing. It’s not just voice acting. You put three years of your life into something like this and you certainly, if nothing else, want the recognition of what you’ve done—it is an entire performance that has been “captured”—your body, your face, and your voice. It wasn’t just three years of talking into a microphone. It was three years of shooting a movie that was motion captured. Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): It was totally different. Acting in front of the camera for film is totally different from acting in a big studio where you don’t where something is at and you have to imagine that it’s right there. You have to figure it out while they’re building stuff that looks like stuff, so it’s a totally different thing. You have to feel and visualize everything that you’re acting. It’s night and day. Ned Luke (Michael): Yeah, we’re actors. We’re not just “voice actors”. Steven Ogg is one of the most brilliant actors I’ve ever seen in my life.…For me, acting is acting. I don’t care if you’re just doing voice or live action or motion capture or what. Acting is acting. GQ: Have you gotten a chance to play the game yourselves yet? Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): Honestly, I just sat back and was tripping off of what was going on with the sales and how it was radiating through the pop culture and everywhere around the globe first. Then I finally sat down and started playing it, so now I’m halfway through it. It’s so interesting that I can’t put it down. It’ll be three in the morning and my wife is telling me to put it down. [Laughs] It’s so addictive. Steven Ogg (Trevor): That’s actually a special little anecdote. When we were trying to put in GTAV, much less play it, we put it in the Xbox 360 and I was like, “Oh, this is such a beautiful moment.” There we are, my son and I, sitting there and we can’t figure out this fucking thing. [Laughs] Okay, we’ve got 2.7 gigabytes, gigabang, gigawhatever. [steven slips into full on Trevor mode] What the fuck is this?! Okay there’s two discs. Put this one in first. Okay. What the fuck? Where to load it? I don’t know. Load it onto here. Manage storage. Fuck! I just want to see the opening. I’m going to cover his face and ears if it starts with Trevor jumping on a skull screaming, “Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”—he’s not going to hear that…but he’s so excited, he just wants to see the opening (or anything). So I pick up the Bat phone and I call Rod [Edge - the director]. We FaceTime so he can help me figure this out. It was such a great scene. I’m in the country house with my son and we’re FaceTime-ing with the director of the game and his son, who’s an actual gamer, and we’re getting instruction on how to start the game. I’d show him the screen and he’d walk me through it. It was such a beautiful moment. [Laughs] GQ: Do you think the success of the game will lead to more TV and film work for you? Ned Luke (Michael): I hope so. [Laughs] I think that’s the goal of everything you do. Stanislavski said, “Love art in yourself, and not yourself in art,” and for me, that’s what acting is. It’s the only thing I want to do. I love it. I’ve been in this game for thirty years and nobody knows who I am. You have really hard times and you have really good years and you have years that you can’t feed your family and you have to sell cars. I gotta tell you, stealing cars is a hell of a lot more fun than selling them! [Laughs] GQ: How has your life changed since the game’s release? Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): [Laughs] I’m turning into a star, man! People are reaching out to me and are really appreciative of what I gave to the game. I feel good that I can make people happy with what they see in Franklin. I’m getting a lot of compliments and I’m loving it. Ned Luke (Michael): This has reawakened my imagination like nothing I’ve ever done before. Doing this game has made me a better actor than I ever was. You’ve got to understand, I was a bitter dude coming off four years of being out of the business. I went back to my hometown so my son could experience where I came from. You’re at my age and you don’t have a series or good representation, and then to come out and get into this? You better believe I’m recharged. GQ: Steven, is it harder or easier to play someone completely off the rails like Trevor? Steven Ogg (Trevor): It’s certainly fun because you just get to be nuts. The thing about Trevor, this character that I so love to play, is that he kind of represents the gaming world and this idea of pure escapism. He gets to be that guy who gets to say whatever he wants, to do whatever he wants, to fuck whatever he wants. Everyone has that fantasy, right? Trevor just does it. It’s very liberating. So, to play that, you basically have an impulse, you feel it, and you try it. There’s someone there to help you with when to pull back or let you know what doesn’t work, but it’s very freeing. I also love that people are recognizing his sense of humor. That was Trevor for me. Walk that line. Bring in the fucking intensity. Bring in the violence. But also, through that, find a sense of humor and allow people to laugh at it. When you do that, it sends that message that you’re not taking yourself too seriously. It’s a little wink. Three years of getting to do that? Yes, please! GQ: In that same vein, Ned, did you feel like you had a lot more creative freedom and input working on GTAV as opposed to the film and TV work you’ve done? Ned Luke (Michael): That might be the thing I’m most proud of on this deal—I was given so much freedom to become the guy. That’s a testament to all the guys that worked on the game. They’re so confident and have so little ego about what they’re doing. They want the game to be the best that it can be, same as me. It was the most fun I’ve ever had. It was like going back to acting class, being able to be so free and not locked in. I’m just thankful for the faith and trust they had in me to do it. And that I didn’t overdo it and piss them off and have them fire me. [Laughs] I actually thought this was worth the read. 3 pointsperfectly sums up my feeling so far. but that's the pain of recent times, everyone is totally nuts with multiplayer mmo social gaming bullshit. If I want multiplayer mmo social gaming bullshit, I invite real people to my real crib and do real things like playing monopoly or get wasted on brew and fastfood watching cheap comedy. period. There's so much differences between GTAV and GTAO with V falling behind, they should've broken them into 2 unique games instead of this questionable mix, so V could stand out more. But let's wait and see what the eventual DLC(s) bring us. the vehicle balancing is also sort of off to me. I already bitched about the amount of BeeJays. same account for Sentinel XS and Stratums for my game, San Andreas is full of them, while on the other hand, the list of vehicles I haven't seen is certainly long, especially outside missions. I don't wanna exaggerate, but judging from the vehicle list on this site, I've only seen a little over half the available cars roaming the streets unless they're a mission objective.

We sincerely hope you're enjoying your visit to Los Santos and we know many of you have plenty of questions about Grand Theft Auto Online. First, we thought it would be useful to provide some details of the roll out of GTA Online, and how we hope you will be involved in making the game everything it can be. Grand Theft Auto Online is going to be something brand new for us: a fully realized and living world for multiple players that will continue to grow and take shape over time. The ultimate shape of GTA Online will be determined as much by you, the player, as by the work we put in. What you like and don’t like, what you play and what you want will determine how the game develops and what it turns into. Everything we do will be informed by feedback from you all – from the types of missions that roll out to all kinds of future content. We are planning for a constant stream of new content, tweaks and updates in the weeks and months ahead. The first couple of weeks we expect to be heavily focused on tuning the experience as it goes from internal testing to the reality of being played by tons of people in the real world so that all the usual teething problems for an online game are overcome. We hope it will all run incredibly smoothly, but please bear with us if it doesn't, and help us fix any and all problems! After that, we will begin releasing content updates and giving you the opportunity to make your own content. GTA Community Feedback Needed from Day One This is vital for the ongoing success of the game. The first few months of Grand Theft Auto Online will be critical as everyone enters this dynamic new world for the first time. Plenty of issues are bound to occur. ?One thing we are already aware of, and are trying to alleviate as fast as we can, is the unanticipated additional pressure on the servers due to a significantly higher number of players than we were anticipating at this point – we are working around the clock to buy and add more servers, but this increased scale is only going to make the first few days even more temperamental than such things usually are. This is part of the problem some of you have been experiencing with the iFruit App and some Social Club services – we apologize in advance for this and thank you for your patience in this area. More than ever, we need your help to report your experiences, findings, likes, loves, dislikes and hates – and we will be looking at your feedback constantly to tune the game into its optimal shape and help guide how Grand Theft Auto Online will grow and evolve past this initial period. We will be checking out how people are playing and what they are not playing or not enjoying, while also monitoring feedback via two other new Rockstar channels: [email protected]: This email address will be active from launch day as a place to send your input and feedback direct to us relating to the game. GTA Online Forums at Social Club: At some point this fall after the initial release of GTA Online, we are planning to launch Social Club Forums where players can chat with one another about their online experiences as well as access a GTA Online Suggestion board to post about any suggested features, tweaks and changes you want to see. Here’s a rough overview of what you can expect on day one as well as initial details about how the GTA Online world will evolve from there. The Launch of Grand Theft Auto Online: From launch, up to 16 players can enter the world together to partake in everything from: Open-World Crime and Chaos: Go on your own or round up your friends to explore the open world together – catch a movie, go mountain biking, hit the shooting range and much more. Want to test the law? Knock over a convenience store, take down a gang or rob an armored truck for easy cash and reputation. Jobs: Los Santos and Blaine County are ripe with opportunity for the ambitious and criminal minded. Take on Missions and an array of other Jobs as a lone wolf, team up with your Crew or join fellow mercenaries and degenerates to pull off a wide range of robberies and illicit activities together. Races: Everything from classic street competition and off-road tracks to boat racing on the open ocean, or take to the skies in aerial events. Jump into the madness of a GTA Race, or try out a brand new race type, Rally, where driver and co-pilot work together to navigate treacherous courses at high speeds. Sports: Join your friends / any random stranger for a game of tennis, a round of golf or go base jumping and more, all for cash and Reputation. Customization: Create your character using the Character Creator – then earn some cash and spend it getting dressed for success. You can also collect and customize cars for your garage and personalize your full weapons cache. Reputation and Cash Flow: Reputation is earned from all your online exploits in everything you do in GTA Online – and will help you rank up, providing access to new features, weapons and criminal contacts. Spend cash you’ve gained on cars, clothes, guns, properties and much more. You can either quickly accumulate cash through profitable activities like knocking over armored cars, winning street races, doing stick-ups or a host of other cash-making endeavors – or if you’re the completely instant gratification type, you can choose to buy denominations of GTA$. You will have the option to purchase GTA$ through the in-game Store. The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker. The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode. Growing Pains: There will be the typical growing pains for an online game, including but not limited to crashes, glitches, crazy bugs, gameplay modes and mechanics that need re-balancing and other surprises! Even in GTAV Story Mode, some of you may have seen a few odd and even amusing little glitches out there last week. This sort of thing is inevitable in a massive open-world game and there’ll surely be lots more unexpected oddities like this in the Online world next week – rest assured we’ll be monitoring and actively doing all we can to smooth such things out as they happen, but we need your help to find them, as well as your feedback to help fine tune all of the game's systems so everything is perfectly balanced. Currently Planned GTA Online Content Updates: Here is a quick overview of a few initial things we’re working on for the first few weeks of Grand Theft Auto Online, alongside an aggressive period of tuning and finessing the game. We will give you dates for all of this content as soon as we have them – bear in mind that the order of things may well change, and we will probably add some extra stuff as well! The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races. The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons. Capture the Flag: GTA Online’s take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator. Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment. Just to be clear, all of these updates will be free. We’ll have more info on this and much more additional content as our plans develop through the launch period, and as we get feedback from you. 1 pointSo I'm Trevor, and a guy drives by in a Bullet, so naturally I take it, and I'm slowly driving along, waiting to see how it will take for the guy to stop chasing after his car (he's swearing at me in Spanish the entire time ). I come up to the train tracks and stop when a cop car comes screeching up behind me, sirens wailing, chasing two cars full of Ballas in a loud exchange of gunfire. The cop car spins and comes to a stop on one set of train tracks, both cops get out and keep shooting at the gang members, and sure enough, the bells start dinging and the arms come down and a train comes barreling through, smashing the cop car and dragging it down the tracks. Tried to take a pic but it happened so fast. I lold.

1 pointI've just finished the story and my list of dislikes are similar to everyone elses: - The story was short. I really enjoyed it, it was so much better than IV's story but it could have been a little longer; - The missions weren't much of a challenge. I was challenged really on two missions and both were largely due to my impatience more than being actually difficult. I thought I'd read somewhere that you were going to be forced to think a little more but I didn't find that at all; - Some of the missions, as mentioned, weren't really mission-worthy, such as buying the masks. It cheapens the achievement of completing a mission; - Unable to enter food outlets. It was also mentioned about the Burger Shot guy in IV whom I also liked. I was surprised and disappointed that you couldn't go inside to either replenish your health or even rob them; - The casino and racetrack... I'm going to assume these will play a major part in GTAO; - There are 'for sale' signs and real estate websites and they play no part in the game. Another element I'm expecting to play a role in GTAO; and - The special for each protag was largely useless. Once I got used to the driving (no, it didn't suck!) I rarely used Franklin's ability, I didn't use Michael's until late in the game and I tried Trevor's early but it didn't really have much use for me so I stopped using it. It was an excellent game in all and these are fairly minor things in the scheme of things but certainly areas of improvement.

1 pointThey did not make that clear at all. Why, and what the hell are those safehouse locations on my blueprint map for, GTA online? that's dumb. It seems like maybe they put a little to much efforts into GTAO for my taste... I dont want it to sound like a complaint, this is still probably the best game I have ever played, I love it and I look forward to the hours of enjoyment I will be getting from GTAV and GTAO... but yeah, no crouching is a little weird.
