  1. So, someone hacked the R* Newswire to throw up some fake screens?
  2. You'll probably have better luck getting an answer here: http://support.rockstargames.com/home
  3. Seems likely, since stealth is one of the RPG-style stats for each protagonist.
  4. Seems like the right thread for this... I noticed some billboards in Franklin's trailer and I'm not sure if they were already discussed. The one on the left is obviously an iFruit device, and the one on the right looks like a movie ad... does that say "Sequel II"? Seems like R*'s brand of humor...
  5. This got me thinking... It would be nifty if there were some kind of editor in the Social Club where you could create customized graphics (similar to Crew Emblems) that would sync to your console and be available to stick on your car. Share your designs with friends, create your own little car club if you're into that sort of thing...
  6. Bummer. In that case I guess you'll be waiting for the blimp to sail in via DLC. Rockstar has a pattern of releasing preorder content to everyone sometime after the game is released. Should have plenty to keep you busy until then anyway... For Red Dead, there were some outfits, a Golden Guns pack and the War Horse. All were available for around $1 less than a year after release. LA Noire had a couple add-on cases, outfits and a couple of weapons. Those were available within a few weeks for $4, $1, and free, respectively. Max Payne 3 had some weapons, power-ups, and multiplayer maps as preorder goodies. Not sure when they became available to the rest of us or how much they cost, but probably not more than a couple of dollars. Point is, the blimp will be available without a preorder, just not on day 1.
  7. As of September 17, the blimp will be exclusive to those who preorder. This is probably a timed exclusive, and after a few months it will be available as a free or very cheap DLC. Also, at the risk of restarting the mess from a few pages ago... you could just preorder the game, rather than complaining about what happens if you don't preorder...
  8. Well then, Kifflom to you, brother-brother.
  9. I emailed [email protected] a while back, then promptly forgot all about it... A few minutes ago I received the following: Edit: Uhh, I also entered the photo contest, so not sure which this is related to... <shrug>
  10. You Europeans and your high cost of living... Salutations from across the pond! What I was trying to say is that the cost for a standard edition of GTA V is in line with the cost of other games. Is 70€ a standard price for a PS3/XBox game over there? Suddenly everything in the US feels like a steal!
  11. I wouldn't play it, and neither would you, and neither would many of us here. Which would mean the business model is no longer profitable, which means it would change. Again. Games also didn't cost millions upon millions of dollars to produce. Todays games are the entertainment equivalent of Hollywood blockbusters, so it makes sense to look for ways to increase profits. Look, we obviously have a difference in philosophy here, and I know a lot of other members share your concerns. But the fact remains that on September 17 you will be able to buy an outstanding, full game with hundreds of hours of content for $60. You can also get some extras if you want, and if not that's cool too. If that's not good enough, I don't know what to tell you. This is the present and future of console gaming.
  12. The executives at Rockstar Games are in a better position than any of us to determine what is or is not an "unnecessary practice". They have a parent company to answer to (Take-Two Interactive) and in turn that parent company has shareholders to answer to (me, and many thousands of others). Since they are running a business, they try to make the best business decisions, which in this case entails offering a preorder incentive to entice potential customers. Whether we can collectively wrap our brains around it or not, preorder numbers matter, and if this practice boosts those numbers, I for one applaud the effort. Where does this sense of entitlement among some gamers come from? It's bizarre. @Spitty, to your point about "day one dlc (disc locked content)", developers are not obligated to release, unlock, or otherwise make available all of the content that has been developed as of the release date. For all we know, TLAD and TBOGT were completed prior to the release of GTA IV. If that were the case, does it mean R* defrauded us by not including all of the available Liberty City content in the initial release? Of course not. If you don't feel the game has enough readily available, included content to justify your $60, wait until a complete edition is released a couple of years from now.
  13. If it's a fake, it's the best I've ever seen. Ever. Where did you find it, Dup?
  14. This business model exists for a reason - because it works. Preorders are valuable for a variety of reasons. The industry is not "doomed", and this practice is not going to change in the foreseeable future. By preordering, you're still paying the same amount of money for the game. Some of us will pony up a portion of that money early (as little as $5 at GameStop) to have access to an extra feature. Eventually, the blimp and everything else discussed in this thread will (likely) be offered as a la carte DLC, but by preordering we are essentially putting up a bit of money in advance in exchange for that early access. As a consumer, you get to decide if, when, and how you purchase the game or any of its associated content. Why is that a bad thing?
  15. Jamie, I love your enthusiasm, but you've got 116 days to get this sorted out.
  16. Stunt Plane Trials sounds awesome, probably the most worthwhile piece of the package. I could also see the Ammunation freebies coming in handy, especially early on; I've never really enjoyed starting a GTA game without enough money to buy even a pistol. Special Ability Boost sounds par for the course, and I could take or leave the outfits/tattoos. Although Trevor is rocking a pretty sweet shirt... All told, an extra $20 seems reasonable. I'm referring to the Special Edition, of course. The Collector's Edition sounds nifty, but in my case I would be overpaying for a bunch of swag that would sit on a shelf somewhere.
