    Looking at the desert again: Pretty sure this is the same old gas station: The flags are even in the right spot.

    The left is Koreatown (Equitable Life building on the right) and towards other areas. One of the viewfinders with Venice Canals was looking at that stretch of road. Downtown is off to the right in the screencap above. Fun fact: This interchange was at Michael's left shoulder in the first trailer when he was looking out at Downtown.

    I think the desert airport is behind the Bandito, near the satellite dishes: Note the same sign, possibly the exact same one.

    Yes that is the river, no that is not the right spot. That interchange is at the left edge of the bigger screenshot. The river runs over to the dam in the other screenshot.

    The car dropping looked a little weird to me too. They may have animated it by hand a little to sit just right for the shot.
