  1. So I originally hail from a lovely place called Huyton. heres a little snippet from wikipedia:

Huyton (pronounced /ˈhaɪtən/hy-tən) is an area of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside, England. It is part of the Liverpool Urban Area and has close associations with its neighbour, Roby, having both formerly been part of the Huyton with Roby Urban District.

About 8 years ago I moved to the even more lovely Widnes. Again heres a bit from the Wiki page:

Widnes is an industrial town within the borough of Halton, in Cheshire, England, with an urban area population of 58,300 in 2010.[1] It is located on the northern bank of the River Mersey where the estuary narrows to form the Runcorn Gap. Directly to the south across the Mersey is the town of Runcorn. Upstream and 8 miles (13 km) to the east is the town of Warrington, and downstream to the west is the neighbouring area of Speke, of the city ofLiverpool. Historically part of Lancashire, the town later came under Cheshire for administrative purposes in the 1974 local government reorganisation.

So basically its near to liverpool and its a generally a shithole (I live in the nice area). a few images of widnes for those who want to know what it looks like:

  2. I assume the UK Game stores are related to the Australian Game stores. They opened up here a few years back, but the majority of their stores have shut down. They were just too expensive to compete with the established competition here. Our major chain, EB (owned by the American Gamestop) has shut down a few stores in my area recently. They aren't in danger of going broke, but their sales are dropping due to the far cheaper prices of online stores (Play-Asia ftw!!!), and to a lesser extent, supermarket stores.

About 15 years back we had Electronic Boutique's scattered across England, and i think GAME bought them out, now the tables have turned and Gamespot is gonna make a return in our country.

I went up city today and looked in both Gamestation, and Game, and to be honest, like Marney i didn't find many decent sale items left. I did pick up Deus Ex for just under £8, which I think was an okay deal, but the majority of pre-owned games are crap. I thought they were doing discounts on new games too, obviously not.

Some of the new games are discounted but not by too much. I think its because most of them are on credit and the suppliers would want the stock back when they go into admin.

  3. He also said my gift cards would be worthless if they went into administration so I decided to just but whatever took my fancy.

exactly what I said. you seen the price of the consoles there? the gamestation in st helens has the 320gb Slim PS3 for £150. great time for anyone to venture into consoles for the first time

There were no bargains at all (or non left anyway), seriously. Even a dual shock PS3 controller was £50. I think I got ripped on those pre-owned games myself.

Mafia 2 is really good, she will like it.

Spoke to my friends who owns a game distribution business today, he had a meeting with gamestop and I asked him about game, he said if anyone is going to buy it it will be them, they only have one store in Birmingham and 10 in Ireland. He said that gamestop have been wanting to expand and this could be the chance.

Share prices are at a penny, about 2 years ago they were over £2 apparently

A penny? Feckin' hell, they are in the shit. And yeah Mafia 2 is something we'll both enjoy, she loves films like Casino, Goodfellas etc so the cut-scenes should make her happy. :)

Oh yeah, pics of my walk home.

gamestation seems to have more of a selection, I've been in both game and gamestation numerous times over the past two days looking for decent games and the stock numbers have started to seriously dwindle even in st helens. You got any spare change for a few shares by any chance?

  5. Excuse me but wtf is "game"? I've never seen one here in 'merikah. We had game crazy that got bought out by gamestop. Never seen a "game" store before. Hope you guyses store dosent go under..

So basically anyone in the UK needs to get their arse down to gamestation (game doesn't have much of a preowned section) and buy themselves some games for a good price. Managed to get myself a few games for relatively cheap before, more trophies for me!!

Seeing as you don't seem to live in the UK that might be why you've never heard of it. Tbh, its pretty shit, we're only suddenly interested in them because everything has been slashed considerably

  6. I could store bodies in my chest freezer.

we actually had one of them spit roast pigs in our chest freezer once. my dad thought it'd be a great barbecue idea but then the great british weather shit all over iy and it resided in the freezer for months. Great thing was I didnt know about its location and was only about 10 at the time, I got the biggest shock in the known fucking world when I wanted to get an ice cream one day. shit a fucking brick.

He told you it was a pig. That was your real mum.

WOW Didn't mean for that to sound horrible lol. Sorry mate. :D

you do sound like a twat there tbh

  7. I still have £30 or £40 worth of vouchers. :)

I'd spend them asap, if they go into admin then they might not accept vouchers. I believe someone got dj hero with the decks for £13 according to a few posts on twitter.

    ZOMG!

Do I detect some sarcasm here? when you consider that the game was atleast 70 quid when it came out I'd like to think thats great value

  8. 4GB's of ram is becoming the absolute minimum these days. 8 ensures the PC wont become absolete so soon, however you have to spec the rest of the PC similarly.

We've got an 8 year old desktop that manages to perform basic tasks very well with 1gb of RAM. it just depends what you need it for tbh. if you're going to sit there with 20 windows open then it struggles but as long as your not a cunt (trying to get this message through to my brother) then its fine. is slow as fuck though even compared to my old acer laptop

  9. I believe this is in the correct section, mods feel free to move it if you wish. So then, it looks like game group are in trouble

High street games retailer Game has just two weeks to turn around its fortunes or face administration, MCV reports.

Senior staff were told in a meeting with CEO Ian Shepherd earlier this week about the state of affairs. Fingers are crossed a US rival will buy it out and keep it afloat. Here's hoping.

Gamestop is the US rival said to be considering buying out Game. Though whether it would involve a complete buyout or a sell-off of part of Game's international operations isn't known.

There's currently an everything must go-style sale happening, with titles offered at very low prices. L.A. Noire, for example, can be had for just £12.98, though it's currently out of stock. Other titles are on sale for just £1.98. It's an effort to inject some much needed cash into the company, which could help keep it going for a potentially valuable few days.

A Game spokesperson refused to comment on rumour or speculation. Just a few weeks ago, Game was the scene of the launch of the PS Vita.

It'd be a real shame if Game does go to the wall. I'm sure I'm not the only one with fond memories of Saturday afternoons spent browsing the Super NES titles, counting down the days until I'd saved up enough pocket money for NBA Jam. Ah, great days.

In the meantime, get yourself down to your local Game and take advantage of the bargains.

  11. Why is it that people always throw RAM at an average spec PC expecting a extra fuckton of performance? for gaming the ram would be sound but the rest of the spec doesn't really shout out HD gaming tbh.

And personally, solid state has the potential to be fantastic but its still finding its feet. some people still think its the must have in hard drive tech but its not really necessary.
