  1. For those who are doubtful about the size of Los Santos as compared to Liberty City need to understand that Manhattan is on an island, and a relatively small one at that; therefore, NYC is a very vertical city (a.k.a. lots of very tall building packed into a small landmass). Los Angeles, on the otherhand, is not on an island and is not a vertical city at all. Yes, there are some skyscrapers in the downtown area, but the huge majority of the city is urban sprawl. It spreads out from downtown for miles and miles in all directions and *most* of the buildings are no more than a few stories tall. So yes, downtown L.A./L.S. won't give you any idea of the city's scale either in reality, or in-game. Here is a good example: http://www.latimes.c...mp/blimp01.jpg. Note the downtown area in the foreground. Roughly the same size as NYC's financial district, if not smaller. But more importantly, note the aforementioned sprawl. It literally spreads to the horizon. So, not a tall city, but a massive one.
  2. Sorry if it's been mentioned, but I haven't read every reply. Full power was restored here in NYC today, so I'm hoping to see the trailer at some point this week. Fingers crossed.
  3. Not mine, but hilarious: https://i.chzbgr.com/completestore/12/10/10/OZKC8cUdPkS1zkrgwMdXxg2.jpg
  4. I feel like GI were probably shown the map so that they could confirm in the magazine that it's massive/exciting/drool-worthy, etc., which is a positive for R*'s marketing. I also think that if they did see it, they were put on a gag order by R* to only talk about size with no other specific details (other cities, if it's an island, urban space to rural space ratio, and so on).
  5. To play devil's advocate, I will say that it's obvious small towns will appear in the hills and countryside outside of Los Santos, just as they did in San Andreas, and just as they do in real-life Los Angeles, and I'm sure liquor stores exist within them. That's not proof that we'll be seeing other cities by any means. I do have a sneaking suspicion that a R* version of San Diego will appear, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised/disappointed if it didn't. To think LV and SF will be included is a fool's folly, in my opinion, but none of us know anything more than the next anticipatory fan.
  6. Gotta say the cyclist screen is my favorite as well. The photorealism is pretty unbelievable.
  7. Normally I'd put the author on The GTA V Shit List for publishing such an obvious headline. In fact - Planes, bikes, automobiles coming to 'Grand Theft Auto V' has to be the worst headline yet. Kotaku is just as bad. Agreed, but this is MSNBC.com, so I don't think they're really as caught up as the rest of us since they are in no way a gaming/tech site. Just thought it was interesting they picked up the story. Speaks volumes of the cultural impact of the GTA franchise if the release of three screenshots makes a national news website.
  8. Just an aside, it made the national news Interwebz: http://www.ingame.msnbc.msn.com/technology/ingame/planes-bikes-automobiles-coming-grand-theft-auto-v-954407?__utma=14933801.129409042.1342555322.1345151326.1345491039.20&__utmb=14933801.7.10.1345491039&__utmc=14933801&__utmx=-&__utmz=14933801.1342555322.1.1.utmcsr=%28direct%29|utmccn=%28direct%29|utmcmd=%28none%29&__utmv=14933801.|8=Earned%20By=msnbc|cover=1^12=Landing%20Content=Mixed=1^13=Landing%20Hostname=www.nbcnews.com=1^30=Visit%20Type%20to%20Content=Earned%20to%20Mixed=1&__utmk=85095449
  9. That'd be pretty cool, especially if you could use it as a cheat later in the game on various parts of the map (without them being blocked off, though). I still think the best reason for areas being blocked of would be roads and bridges closed due to earthquake damage. That makes so much sense since L.A. practically sits on top of the San Andreas fault. It would be an awesome in-game feature, too (and also as a cheat). I'll actually be a little disappointed/surprised if earthquakes don't play into the game anywhere, but c'est la vie. Who knows, maybe Rockstar will get rid of the closed map. I doubt it, but you never know. Since they suggest Los Santos is the only city and the only other populated areas are surrounding "towns," it would make sense to have the protag begin the game outside of the city and work through missions to get into LS itself (a la IV when you started in Broker and played your way into Algonquin); however, I still think map-wise, R* has some tricks up its sleeve. I'd actually be surprised if they didn't include San Diego (a sizeable city in its own right) in the game. It's only about 130 miles south of Los Angeles, so it's conceivable it'll be there.
  10. Love 'em. If this is from console footage, graphics have definitely improved over IV DLC. It's really cool to see the NPCs sitting on the edge of that dock, too. Little AI improvement touches like that really make the experience that much more enjoyable.
  11. Thanks to the OP for their post. I agree with every word. Honestly, the people who whine incessantly about the lack of information is what prevents me from reading forums more often. It almost drives me as crazy as when someone makes a flat statement with zero intelligence or logic behind their hypothesis, i.e. "They aren't announcing the release date until November."
  12. Seriously. LOL @ they forgot. I'm picturing everyone sitting around the office there saying, "I know there was something we were supposed to do today . . ."
  13. Dear face, have you met palm? Face, palm. Palm, face.
  14. Interesting. Seems a bit more legit than other leaks, but I'm still taking it with a big grain of salt.
  15. A favorite thing of mine to do after I complete the story is to think up completely original mission scenarios that I can then act out in-game. For example, my character is paid 15 million to steal a fighter jet and has to somehow do so undetected. I'd get as far as I could into the military base undetected using stealth, am eventually discovered, a firefight ensues, but I do manage to nick a plane. With the highest possible wanted level, I'm engaged mid-flight by two scrambled jets and a dogfight is underway. I take out the planes, but mine is heavily damaged and I have to crash-land it in the desert and somehow escape. I imaging probably going out in a blaze of glory, ha. I have a strong feeling that V is going to provide tons of opportunities for fun shit like that post-storyline.
  16. Gotta be honest, I actually prefer the IV style weapon selection over the wheel, though I wouldn't be disappointed either way.
  17. Yeah, so -- not trying to be "one of those guys," because I don't believe a goddamn thing anyone says about a release date unless it comes directly from Rockstar. Period. I was speaking with an employee at Gamestop, and her educated guess was an early 2013 release. Her logic was that, by this point in the year, all pre-order games coming out in the rest of that year have already gotten confirmed release dates by the publisher, even if that announcement isn't public yet. She said it's never happened differently, even with Rockstar games. Just sayin'.
