Yeah, I was pretty bummed about that news until I heard about their new project, Alkaloid. It has Hannes, Christian, and Linus of Obscura and Danny Tunker along with a dude I haven't heard of. The way I see it, it's like we have two Obscuras now. Steffen has always been the only consistent member of Obscura do he'll keep the vision going. I'm looking forward to seeing what these creative bastards have in store.

Places I'm now considering visiting if the opportunity presets itself: Netherlands (countryside, but possibly Amsterdam), Belgium, Hungary(Budapest), Austria.

Went to aces and ales with some buddies last night.. After several strong beers and a huge bowl of dank, I proceeded to eat a quarter of my friends bacon cheddar fries, half of my other friends burger stuffed with cheese, bacon, chorizo and onion, and an entire breakfast pizza that I ordered. (2 sunny side up eggs, white sauce, pecorino-Romano, scallions, onions and black pepper) My farts have never been this raunchy. Tonight I ate this: bone-in veal parm. Soooo good. Happy bday to me

I am going to none of those places, except Rome. Oh yeah, I haven't given any updates. Well it turns out most of France requires reservations on their trains that both cost money and must be made a week in advance. Since the general theme of this trip is spontenaety, that pretty much rules out France for me. Shame, I was really eager to see the Louvre. Another time. I've decided to replace France with an adventure through Switzerland.

I just watched some fat bitch at the liquor store with a baby on a chest harness bend over to grab a quarter and crushing her baby between her fat rolls by doing so, resulting in 10 minutes of crying. 8/10 4 stars -
What can I say, I'm pretty fucking cool.

FUCK YEAH. Opeth announced a European tour today and it is at the same time as my trip. Gonna hit the one in Milan, Italy and maybe a Germany or Switzerland show!

Cat's Cradle. Vonnegut. Fuck it, I know I'm late. Still enjoying it.

Didn't know they released a track. I think the album artwork is pretty good. I finally listened to Heritage a couple months ago and haven't thought at all to play it again so maybe that says something lol. It was great, but not very memorable.

You got it. I'm off at like 7 or 8 my time tomorrow. Hope you all are still on.

Maybe if won't get as stupidly high as I have the past few times so I can actually complete a fucking race.

Dude, the Barrel Aged Bop Gun and Marshmallow Hugs sound fucking amazing! Must be awesome to work at a brewery. Hook a brotha up with some mail order beer!

Just tried the Epic Big Bad Baptist. Holy fuck, this is an amazing beer. Imperial stout with cocoa nibs and coffee added, aged in whiskey barrels. Coffee is very present here, much more than any cocoa flavor. I recommend it.

Been watching a fair bit of Comedy Bang Bang on Netflix. A bit too silly at times but Reggie Watts makes it worth watching. A lot of the super random humor is right down my alley so I've had some good laughs. Best enjoyed after a bong rip.

Just about 3 1/3 months left... Still so much planning to do. Sadly, it seems I'll have to skip France for this trip. Their strict reservation requirements on most rails completely throw off my desire to be spontaneous in my destinations this trip. Instead, from Freiburg I'm going to explore Switzerland instead of going to Paris.

Don't forget eating wild psilocybin mushrooms before all the pillaging. Vikings were fucking insane and awesome. I dug Entourage. It was pretty funny and interesting in the first grip of seasons, plus it was fucking loaded with hot women. I stopped watching during the last or second to last seasons because it got way too dramatic and boring for me. Workaholics is fucking hilarious! I haven't seen anything after the second season, though. Real stupid move on my part. I can imagine it only got better. -
I was just telling my friend yesterday that Heritage shouldn't have been released as an Opeth album. Phenomenal record, really, but it's in hardly any way Opeth. Deathcore fucking sucks. It's a plague and has ruined any chance for me to see a solid opening band for the groups I like, and had especially ruined metal festivals.

not selling out. Akerfeldt is doing what he wants. not what his fans expect of them. want old opeth, listen to old opeth. Devin Townsend gets the same shit for his newer stuff. 110% with you, pal. Speaking of Devin, while I've always had respect for him as a musician, I'm just recently starting to dig his music. Any suggestions on his best records? There are so many to choose from,
-
I have high expectations. I'll sit through an album of 70's prog ripoffs for even one emotive Akerfeldt guitar solo. Martin never disappoints either. Fuck. Just about 15 days until 3 nights of Primus here in Vegas with Tim Alexander back on the kit. My 12th-15th Primus shows they shall be, and at a brand new venue, the Brooklyn Bowl. Too stoked!!!

Valid points. I am relatively new to Opeth anyway, having only heard Watershed, Damnation and Ghost Reveries one or two times each so far and nothing before Still Life.. Only having had the time to really get to know Still Life, Blackwater Park and Deliverance..So it may be initial excitement getting me defensive. At least we can agree how great they are (or were?)
-
I disagree. I think their music is incredibly complex, in a different way then most bands. They have a seamless flow through different moods and intensities in their tunes, very dynamic. I think their riffs are technical in a very subdued way, tasteful. Perhaps complex would be a more appropriate word than technical. While it is mostly a chord-driven band, they're often complemented by great scales and intricate patterns in between the chunky chords. Mikhael's riffs have this incredible force behind them, capable of moving buildings if they were physical objects. Haha. You could say its a more commercial sound, I view it as maturing as an artist. The new records are even better than the old (though I haven't heard Heritage, Watershed is a beautiful and heavy fucking masterpiece) because there are certainly new styles constantly added to the compositions. To compare with Metallica is ricidulous. Metallica is soulless, immature dad rock. Mikhael puts so much feeling into his solos and especially his vocals. Examples: Burden, Face of Melinda, Benighted, and Coil just off the top of my head. To hear a guitar lead that will bring a tear to your eye in the right mood, listen to Godhead's Lament. Until it gets heavy as fuck. Idk man, all a matter of opinion, but there's a serious depth to this band I was blind to for years.
