Apparently there are rumblings that Gamestop managers have just been shown some actual video footage of Max Payne 3. Trailer inbound very soon I reckon.

Update:

Update: Also stumbled across another 'source' claiming they were at the GameStop Managers Conference in Las Vegas and they saw [or heard] nothing more than what's already on the official Max Payne 3 site..............so someone may be lying.

Looks like...

For those wondering about the Gamestop conference footage, here's a quick rundown of impressions and info of those who saw it and what went down:

  • Rockstar presented the game during a stage demonstration last Wednesday night with a dev demoing a certain level from the game.
  • The demo had all the staples of a Max Payne game including Bullet Time shoot outs(duh), painkillers to recover health and Max's inner monologues.
  • Yes, they got hear James McCaffery as the burned out, old grizzled Max Payne. Sounded great.
  • Visually, looks great. In fact one attendee couldn't believe it was possibly the same RAGE engine that ran RDR and GTAIV and if it was then *R must of figured a way to unleash more power out of it. Then again, RDR and GTAIV are open world games and MP3 is just a linear level shooter.
  • Rockstar also had a booth set up on the conference floor that had a viewing tent set up that looped a couple of gameplay videos with commentary. The security for this booth though was actually the most intense and guarded out of all the games that were there in video and playable form, as in only X number of people were allowed in the viewing tent while security watched to make sure no photos or video was taken.
  • One of the gameplay clips showed multiplayer and a player engaging in bullet time during the MP session but the commentary didn't explain how that would work in MP.

Overall, talking to those who saw the video and demo said the game looked "amazing" and commented how it looks to be Rockstar's next big hit. Hopefully we'll get more info and the first video in less than a month!

They're still reminding people that Rockstar Games made it. :P

Rockstar Games were heavily involved with the first two Max Payne games too, Remedy didn't do it all.

A few facts for those who are asking:

1) Yes, that is the voice of James McCaffery, original voice actor from Max Payne 1 and 2…

2) Max Payne 3 is running on a new iteration of Rockstar’s RAGE engine

3) Today’s Max Payne 3 trailer is all in-game footage

4) Like GTAIV and Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 uses the Natural Motion character behavior system for lifelike weight and movement

5) No, Max Payne 3 is not an open world game – we’re staying true to Max’s roots in atmosphere, story and gameplay design

6) Today’s Max Payne 3 trailer shows a small part of Max’s journey – much more info soon

Re: Max Payne 3 - R* San Diego dev said:

"Trailer was made entirely from in game footage. It's a shame we need 2 put this disclaimer on game trailers."

I said:

"Totally agree, you Rockstar's have the balls to show gamers what they're really getting instead of trying to 'hood-wink' them."

He said:

"Thanks for acknowledging that. It's something that we refuse to budge on."

^yeah that's what I always liked about R* trailers and the cutscenes too. What you see is what you get. Of course they can pick the perfect spot/time (sunsets etc) and move the camera wherever they want but the graphics are the same we'll see on release day. :D

With R* averaging a 6 month promotional cycle for their games it's unlikely we'll get much until the final month, February 2012. I enjoy the build up hype almost as much as the games myself. Always something to keep you entertained with Rockstar, not just this game but the stuff like the Myths & Mavericks Free DLC, the GOTY Edition of RDR plus other little bits like the original Max Payne games being made available for mobile devices.

They certainly know how to captivate their fans. I think we're in a cult without realising it. :o
