TreeFitty 2631 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 The New York City Department of Records just digitized over 870,000 never-before-seen photos and put them online. There are many black & white pics from the 1930s showing the cityscape and even some crime scene photos. The vast majority of the pics are color from the 1980s when the city photographed every single building. The gallery is through here but it's currently down from everyone wanting to see. The DailyMail.co.uk has some posted in an article.
Guest Marney1 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) I love stuff like this but you can get lost for hours without realising it. Edit: The Health & Safety Board would have a fit if they saw this today. Edited April 25, 2012 by Marney1
danz0r 10 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 I really want to see the 1980's photos because I know how bad it was in the 70s and 80s but theres only a small amount of pictures of NYC in the 80s. I find it interesting at how a city that was falling apart turned out like it is now.

CaPn bOnEs 8527 Report post Posted May 6, 2012 this is officially up and running now, in case anyone wondered... it was down for quite some time, but everything's there now... i can't figure out how to extract the images itself though, apparently they want you to buy them instead... TreeFitty 2631 Report post Posted May 8, 2012 Sucks that 99% of the 1980s tax pics are only thumbnails or just small. edit: actually it seems all categories are pixelated. Probably so you'll pay up for a good version.
CaPn bOnEs 8527 Report post Posted May 8, 2012 yea that sucks... i can't really blow it up to look at the tiny details, which are some of the best parts at looking at old photos... there usually wasn't another take if someone had their eyes closed...
