Qdeathstar 1763 Report post Posted January 8, 2014 Does any chinese food have msg now these days?
GunSmith 2452 Report post Posted January 8, 2014 It's really rare. Only the worst of shitholes still use it; you'll see most places with a proud banner decrying MSG.
Ginginho 1613 Report post Posted January 8, 2014 Chinese food never tasted the same once they started removing MSG from their ingredients... I try to find places that still use it...

Ginginho 1613 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Found a Canadian deli in Auckland!! Had lunch there today. Poutine with Montreal-smoked brisket, followed by moose ears (which my canadian friend says are called beavers tails in Canada) washed down with a Kokanee... Awesome!!
GunSmith 2452 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 How were the beaver tails?
Ginginho 1613 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Reall good once I got over the disappointment that they weren't real moose ears or beaver tails....
gtagrl 4317 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 What did you put on your beaver tail?
Ginginho 1613 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice... I would have had maple butter and bacon but the poutine filled me up.
gtagrl 4317 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Perfect - I was going to say the best topping is lemon and cinnamon sugar! Sounds like you had a pretty authentic taste of the weird local cuisine. We have a 'poutinerie' where you can get all sorts of goodies on top of your poutine...pulled pork and bacon is the best. Not a meal you can have every day, though. Kokanee's not a bad beer, either, it wouldn't be the first thing I'd serve you as an example of a top Canadian beer, but a crisp, clean option. I'm surprised you have any Canadian beer at all down there.
Ginginho 1613 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 It is the only place in NZ that imports Canadian beer. I had a choice of Kokanee, Moosehead or one with a maple leaf on the label of the bottle.
gtagrl 4317 Report post Posted January 9, 2014 Kokanee is from out west in Alberta, Moosehead isn't bad either, it's made out east near me, and Molson Canadian's the cheap stuff you can guzzle at parties or by the campfire. All three are more or less the same, not top shelf stuff but certainly cold and wet.
