This is why he's so neutral about the situation, because he know's he will end up owning both regarldess :P Fanboy's (not saying our resident PSFanboy it poor lol) are created by people that can only afford one console, so they cling to that for dear life, and tell themselves it's the best out of denial!

Sorry, i had to make a joke about it.

heres a wall of text bashing the xbox one from another forum. how much of it is BS?

______________________________________________

If you plan on getting a xbox one DONT DO IT

______________________________________________

This is why

Xbox Requires an internet connection. Here’s how it works: Every 24 hours your Xbox will try to connect to Microsoft’s servers for verification. If it is unable to connect' date=' sucks to be you. You’re blocked from playing even single player games until it can connect.

Source: http://kotaku.com/xb...lay-o-509164109

Do you like renting games, lending them to a friend, or even borrowing them from a friend? No longer possible. Every Xbox One game you get must be registered to your Xbox live account to be played. After that point it will only work for you. No one else can use it unless they pay a fee. Essentially it works like this. You pick up a used Xbox One game from somewhere or someone, pop it into your console. The system verifies it’s been registered to your account. Uh-oh, it isn’t! In order to play it, you have to pay Microsoft a fee, which is currently slated to be full retail price. Doesn’t matter how scratched up it is or how cheap you got it at gamestop or from a friend. You aren’t just buying the physical copies anymore. You’re paying Microsoft for a LICENSE to be allowed to play that game.

It is worth mentioning Microsoft is exploring ways for you to trade in and resell your used games. This is rumored to mean that you can sell your digital license to play the game (registration) back to microsoft, likely for microsoft points. You can then trade in the game at gamespot for some cash if you like. Either way, as it currently stands, the new owner would still have to pay a fee on top of the price of actually buying the physical copy.

Source: http://www.technobuf...l-retail-price/

Is it worth mentioning that Microsoft if shafting Indie Developers as well? Where as on Playstation Network or (whatever the Wii has) Indie Developers can self publish their content easily. Playstation even encourages this. Microsoft however forces these Indie Devs to enter publishing deals with them to be allowed to market their content. You don’t go through them, you don’t get to sell what you developed.

I’m not quite done yet! Now, I’m sure you heard a lot about “TV TV TV TV SPORTS TV TV SPORTS SPORTS TV.” Yes, the Xbox is slated to be able to stream live tv, live sports, etc. So let me ask you this. You obviously already have something like cable or DirecTV. Do you really want to shell out hundreds of dollars more and pay a monthly subscription fee to have another television provider? Yes, I said hundreds of dollars, and I don’t mean the cost of the console. To view live TV from the Xbox you are required to purchase ANOTHER separate device for it to work. Why would you even consider shelling out more money for something you already have anyway? Even if you didn’t, DirecTV is cheaper. Or you could even subscribe you Hulu.com and watch live tv on your computer. FOR MUCH CHEAPER. You essentially have to buy another cable box if you don’t have one. And if you do… what do you need the Xbox One for?

Source: http://www.vg247.com...eparate-device/

So far we’ve discovered that the Xbox One is not really a gaming console, at least… not a consumer friendly gaming console. It’s being marketed as an all-in-one home entertainment system. Something to replace all of the other devices in your house. But there are drawbacks even to that. Put on your tin foil hats for this part folks. Take from it what you will, all I’ll say is… possibilities…

The Xbox One’s features will not function unless the Kinect is plugged in and active. This is not an optional piece anymore.

Source: http://www.ign.com/a...kinect-attached

So imagine your Kinect piece breaks? Tough luck, no more Xbox for you. But you know what’s worse?

Pay attention, because this is important. The Kinect is always watching. Always listening. Even when the system is off.

Yes. One of the ways to turn the system on is to audibly say: “Xbox On” while the system is off. The Kinect, which is always on, hears you and turns it on. Now this might seem like a cool feature, but did you know Microsoft patented a feature that would allow the Kinect’s camera (It’s no longer just a sensor, but a camera) to spy on you for the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America?) While they may not actually do this, it is actually possible for them to do this now. It has a camera, and a microphone. The Kinect is always on. It is ALWAYS listening, ALWAYS watching.

An idea has been tossed around that by using this feature, it will allows game developers and movie produces to set a limited amount of how many people can be allowed to view the entertainment. So as a hypothetical example, you and three friends are watching a movie, which is the maximum allowed. A fourth friend enters the room and the Kinect’s sensor registers the fourth individual. The movie stops and you a prompted to pay a fee so that the extra individual may also view the film. Again, that is NOT currently the case, but these are the ideas currently being tossed around with the system’s current capabilities.

Source for listening: http://www.theverge....lways-listening

Source of spying: http://www.extremete...ou-for-the-mpaa

Now, just two more things and I’ll be done here!

This isn’t really a good or bad thing, but it’s annoying. It also explains how they can prevent you from playing a used game if you didn’t pay their fee. Xbox one no longer plays games off the discs, you HAVE to install them to the hard-drive in order to play them. I believe PS3 also has you do this (on a number of games but not always it seems), except that PS3 isn’t trying to Nickle and Dime you at every corner. It also seems according to this article there is something related to the Online portion at the beginning of this post. The option is there for Developers to require the Xbox to always be online to play their particular game. Well, it seems PC gamers and console gamers have one thing in common now… DRM.

(At least pirates on PC can bypass DRM easily. Not an option for Consoles.)

Source: http://www.theverge....e-game-installs

And last but not least, another annoyance… Xbox One will not be compatible with any and all current headsets. Nope, companies will either have to make new headsets altogether specifically for the Xbox One, and they have to adhere to what Microsoft wants. Look forward to price gouging.

Source: http://www.ign.com/a...gaming-headsets

Oh, one more thing… If you have an Xbox 360, don’t get rid of it. Why? Well if you want to keep playing your old 360 games you’ll need it. The Xbox One isn’t backwards compatible. At all. Not only that, but President of Microsoft’s Xbox Division Don Mattrick insults the very notion of backwards compatibility! He calls it: “Backwards thinking.”

Source: http://www.theverge....ds-compatibilty

Source of insult: http://www.polygon.c...ng-don-mattrick

That is all I have to say currently folks, and I hope you took the time to read this far. I’ll conclude with the following… please… PLEASE do not buy this console. Paying for this supports greedy and anti-consumer business practices. Speak with your wallet, and pass up the Xbox One. No matter what games it might have that you want, even if they are exclusive. Do the right thing and make a statement. Refuse to be nickle and dimed like this. Refuse to be seen as a mindless consumer who will buy anything tossed to them.

We won’t know much else until after E3, but as it stands now, the PS4 or a decent gaming PC is the best way to go.

If you are willing to do so, please spread this post around. Liking is not even remotely necessary, but do please share it if you agree with and acknowledge what you’ve read here. The more people know, the fewer of them waste their money.

Thank you, kindly.

~Dylan Jordan

xbox is going after the old wii audience, and we all know how well that console sold to people with families... they've been targeting that audience since the kinect and they will continue to do so... they go where the $$$ is, and nintendo made a buttload of it from that market all the while introducing new people and generations to gaming...

microsoft first got into gaming because it wanted to own the market... they've copied people the entire way, which isn't surprising considering that internet explorer was a rip off of netscape navigator... then comes the wii, who created an entirely new avenue of money revenue... that's the market the X1 wants...

but on the subject of systems and not companies, it doesn't matter which one you buy, they will both play next gen games... i am a hardcore sony supporter, but i am not a fanboy... i know the xbox one will be a capable machine, and millions will buy it...

and for the argument over blu-ray, it was an even keel battle with HD DVD until the porn industry got behind (pun intended) blu-ray... porn has always driven the technology industry forward and in this instance, they chose blu-ray...

and you argue (blacksox) that microsoft didn't focus on games and instead talked about their system and what it can do... umm, wasn't this press conference about revealing the new system?? what makes you think they have to show games?? playstation didn't really talk about games either...

I agree with the entire first portion of what you said ( up to the second paragraph ).

The PlayStation 4 will be the more capable machine, and will be able to produce a higher quality of game. The only thing stopping it from reaching it's full potential is if 3rd party developers decide to make the Xbox One their primary console of choice ( which could possibly happen if the Xbox One starts too majorly outsell the PS4/ Dev's will want the larger market share/ more money ).

I hope that for 3rd party games, Dev's put in some options for a greater ability to change Advanced Graphics Settings ( like you can for PC games ). For instance being able to change the Settings for Particle Effects, Texture Filtering and Quality, Depth of Field, Better Shader Modelling, Better Shadows, Tessellation, Distortion Effects, HDR ( Light Bloom ), SSAO ( Ambient Shadows ) etc, etc. So that the PS4 can reach it's full potential, and not be held back by the sub-par Xbox One.

I agree that the Xbox One will sell very well, and will probably beat the PS4 in sales. And this scares me a bit, because Microsoft doesn't care about pushing the boundaries of gaming like Sony does. All of this is also very important for 'PC only' gamers, because a lot of the best games come about because of new consoles and the potential money that can be made out of them.

And are you joking about the porn industry influencing Blu-Ray. First and foremost, the biggest entertainment industry is 'Gaming'. Secondly the Porn industry is dwindling in Sales due to the advent of 'Free Sharing' Porn Sites on the Internet. I didn't even know that they even sold Blu-Ray's of Porn Movies ( seems kind of pointless and futile too me ).

Also HD DVD was never on an even keel with Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray movies have an obvious higher quality of sound and picture than HD DVD, and can also store a lot more information ( there are even plans for new Blu-Rays that will be created with up to 100 GB's of on-disc storage ). The Xbox 360 Multiple Disc thing was never going to be a part of the future of gaming. And in the future they will probably phase out disks altogether( including Blu-Ray ), and eventually become 100% Digital.

And on the last bit of your statement, Sony ( at their Press Conference ) came out and showed us a powerful system that is Developer friendly. Showing their focus on developing great expansive new games for this next generation. They showed exclusive games like Killzone Shadow Fall, and Infamous Second Sons. Both of which were enough to satiate my appetite for games until they show us more at E3.

Anyway E3 is right around the corner, and we will see what both consoles have left up their sleeves very soon...

Bandwith is still very expensive, so until those costs go down, all digital seems unlikely.

Ofc, next next gen is 7-10 years away, so maybe then..

@blacksox - you're talking about minor differences in graphics, a department that even sony struggled at when compared to xbox for 3rd party games... i've seen countless screens comparing minor graphical differences and 9 times out of 10, the xbox looked crisper and sharper... and i am one that doesn't give a shit about graphics so long as the game plays fine...

i am not defending xbox whatsoever, i am just trying to add to the other side of the argument since it seems to be severly one-sided in this topic titled, 'xbox one'... and quite frankly it's turning into a fanboy war in here, and nothing pisses me off more than reading this bullshit...

furthermore, you'd be surprised how much porn still does have an influence on tech... why they're probably the reason why streaming is so big nowadays... before you could find your favorite shows streaming, someone was streaming porn... it's always at the top of the evolution, and has been throughout the history of time...

Here's some extracts from an article in the NZ Herald by a reporter who went behind the scenes at Xbox HQ after the announcement - it almost sounds like they (MS) don't see the X1 as an out and out replacement for the 360...

The differences in system architecture were too strong to justify full backwards compatibility, Whitten told the Herald in an office located at Microsoft's sprawling Xbox campus in Redmond, Washington, shortly after the new console's global unveiling.

"The fact is, we're focused on the Xbox 360 ecosystem continuing and being really vibrant. I think people will continue to buy games for the 360 but at the same time, we wanted to build the platform for the future."

The approach creates an interesting scenario. The Xbox One is the device that will do everything. Everything, that is, except play the current crop of games.

Whitten stressed that Xbox was not following the formula of old, where a console was abandoned when the updated version came to market. More about the Xbox 360's future is expected to be revealed at E3 this June.

O.K fair point on Porn having an influence on the technological evolution of entertainment.

But the reason that the Xbox 360 had the better version of 3rd party games, is because the PS3 was so hard to programme for ( a problem that the PS4 will not have ). Due mostly in part too the weird design of it's hardware.

It didn't have Developer Friendly Tools, and as such most Dev's found it easier to design their games around Xbox 360 architecture, and then to port it too the PS3 ( with most of these ports being of sub-par quality ). After which everyone liked to show side by side comparisons of the Xbox 360's graphical superiority.

Really looking at the Specs the PS3 was the more powerful system. This is evident when you look at the exclusives for each of the Systems. The PS3 has beautiful exclusives, which are of a better quality than anything the Xbox 360 has produced.

you're exactly right on the PS3 developer issues... it was the biggest problem for PS3 this gen, which is now all figured out by most developers... xbox was built like a PC,and guess what?? sony learned their lesson and now all you hear from developers is how it's so simple to design for the PS4, like a PC... my main point was, xbox had the upper hand last gen despite how much we all adore the PS3...

xbox did right last gen, but this gen they're not off on a good foot yet... E3 is still looming and this console debate is far from over... i'm just trying to add to the other side since this forum topic sounds like 13 pages of sony love despite the title... i'm a debater, so i am trying to add to the other side of the coin...

Yeah I like opposing arguments, and too rethink my stance on particular subjects. I mean how boring would it be if everyone agreed with you.

And I would love it if Microsoft was creating major competition for Sony, with a more powerful system and better games. If this happened I wouldn't hesitate in buying both systems.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens at E3.

PS. This is the type of thing I like too see from Microsoft ~ http://au.gamespot.c...e-games-6408992 ................................... $1 Billion into Next-Gen Game Development, Yes Please.

yea, saw that story earlier today... it's a decent step in trying to reestablish it's connection with developers... the 15 exclusives in the 1st year is also a big change in philosophy... we'll see at E3 if half of those are kinect games, but showing that kind of direction will move systems... after all, i always say it, it comes down to the games period... and in an a console war for your money, it comes down to the exclusives...

I think Microsoft realised that their specs could not compete with PS4, so they've targeted their audience differently. Hence the TV crap. Focusing on video games would be irrelevant, because people would just turn around and say "Yeah but PS4 does it better".

Marketing to a family audience could also be an attempt to enter the market of the original Wii, which generated almost 100 million sales worldwide, Outshining the Xbox360 by like 23 million.

All friendly banter aside, I do expect both consoles to consistently produce parallel games by third party developers. My point is, they will both be as good as one another, it's just fun messing around with the competition.

The only thing is looking at the Specs for both systems, it seems to me that the Xbox One will have the sub-quality version of these games.

As long as Dev's don't develop for Microsoft's X1 first, then port it too the PS4 like they did with a lot of 3rd party games this gen for the PS3 ( which gave it the lower quality game/ which everyone liked to point out/ Fricken' Idiots ). And which was mostly due to most people in America owning 360's, even though the PS3 was the more powerful system ( although it was more difficult to code for ).

This gen should hopefully be a bit better for Sony with it's Console being much easier to develop for.

Just take a look at the Specs, the PS4 is obviously the more powerful system.

xbox-one-playstation-4-specs.png?w=942

Look at how many more Terraflops the PS4 does, look at how many more GPU Cores it has. It has almost triple the memory speed and bandwidth of the Xbox One as well.

Don't get too caught up on specs and power, otherwise the PC guys will migrate into this thread and shame us all.

http://www.nbcnews.c...sign-6C10145582

Microsoft defended the controversial design of its Xbox One this week, insisting that the new console's look will help the device fade into the background to let users better enjoy the actual entertainment content it has to offer.

How is it supposed to fade in to the background if it's the size of an amplifier? And since when did people say 'Damn, I would be enjoying this game if that damned Xbox/PS3 wasn't distracting me because it's so prominent!'

Most people will be using it as their coffee table. Not much fading happening there, especially given how often I accidentally bang my shin on my coffee table.
