DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted March 14, 2011 My old thread over at iGTA proved quite popular, and contained essential positive crit which helped my development as a games artist. This thread will contain my recent personal games art projects. Hopefully I should improve over time. I've almost finished something I've been working on recently, I'll post it shortly.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted March 14, 2011 Here's a low poly, in game version of the robot i posted on my old thread. Which colour looks the best?
Massacre 7646 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Depends. What kind of work does the worker bot do?
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Worker bots are like front line soldiers, but robots lol. The idea wasn't mine btw, im just interpreting it in 3d tbh
Massacre 7646 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Oh, red then. I was thinking they were some kind of maintenance robot, in which case I would've gone with the two on the right, but replace the red with orange like a construction worker's vest.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks dude. I've talked with a few of my friends, and a lot of them are saying it needs more than one colour, but one needs to be dominant for a better balance. So this is what I've done in response: Let me know what you think. cheers, Dupz.
Pieface 15 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 If they are meant to be soldiers, then green would be best. It's easier to interact with an audience using colours they associate already in life. People associate green with armies due to Camo.
Massacre 7646 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Probably, but the stars make me think red army, and regardless of the uniform color, I can't get red out of my head when I see them. Although now that I've seen the green with the red stripe, it looks much better than the solid green version.
Qdeathstar 1763 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 I like the green one better.
OptimumPx 329 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 I prefer green, but if they are supposed to be from a 'communist' group in the game red might be a better choice as a short hand.
DiO 4730 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 If you rock the green one maybe change the colour of the star too so it doesn't look all hitler-esque? Looks sick though. Fuck you for doing amazing things I wanted to get good at.
Massacre 7646 Report post Posted March 22, 2011 Envy ftw.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks for the feedback guys. Still working on it, and the weapons atm. Here's a couple of assets for a cafe in the game.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 I just started a steampunk model which will be combined with a single model from every other student on my course to create a game mod called New Found Land which at some point will be released to the public. I've just recycled my sewer i made at the beginning of the year. But I've steampunk'd it up. Those huge cog like structures will be rotating in opposite directions. The art style is also sort of cell shaded/cartoon looking so I've got to make textures to accommodate that. The last catch is each mod has to have at least one code script in it. that could be anything from a particle effect like steam or fire, to a flashing light that when you shoot it, it will smash and go out. This is it so far. Textures are only place holder, they need a lot of work. Any cool "steampunk" idea's would be good if anyone can think of any. cheers, DuPz.
Massacre 7646 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 More brown shades. With steampunk, most stone should be brown (grey is okay, but it should be a dark grey and used sparingly), most metal should be copper or gold (with occasional steel), and lighting should be yellow or brown and dim in most places. Lots of rust (and steam, obviously), and don't hesitate to use wood in places that should probably have metal.
Qdeathstar 1763 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 Don't like it... the original stuff was much much better. This looks ugly.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted April 16, 2011 It's still in early stages tbh. Do have you anything more constructive, like ideas or advice to make it look better? I'm currently working hard on something else atm, just thought I'd post this up as it is so far.
Qdeathstar 1763 Report post Posted April 17, 2011 sure, it looks early 2000s graphics wize, your earlier work was much better, return to that. (eg the cave, the robots, ect) Other than that, i'm not a 3d modeler so i could spout off some nonsence about "more polygons" or some shit, but nah. I wont. Edgecrusher 91 Report post Posted April 19, 2011 I like it, but it seems too modern for steampunk. Think industrial revolution and, as Massacre said, don't be afraid to use wood.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted April 25, 2011 Here is a quick preview of our beta AI level. It's all real time, and there is some light map issues which are causing dark patches on the meshes. Also this level was chucked together in a day just for a deadline so it doesn't look that great. But it will need to be finished in less than a month.
DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted April 26, 2011 Can you all do me a favour and help me expand my dropbox limit by taking five minutes of your time to make a free account? I use it to transfer my game creation packages to peers, and the free limit is only 2GB. Each person that joins through me gives me an extra 250mb, and the limit is 8GB. Remember, it's free! Use this link: http://db.tt/ozvZGHd Thanks

DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted April 26, 2011 It's just online storage that you can share with people. But you can add a folder on your pc which instantly syncs with the online storage. (If you chose to use it) I think you need to install it for the referral to go through though... :/ you could just use it to save porn to i guess? lol Thanks for your contribution btw. Massacre 7646 Report post Posted April 26, 2011 Yeah, I guess it would be nice to have some additional space for my porn, even if it's only 2 gigs.
