Rockstars GTAO business strategy.

i have never played a perfect game and GTA has always had it's issues... but for me and a lot of other people, it satifies my GTA side... you'll never really get a character story in GTAO because of the freedom of the world... there's nowhere to put an origin story because it probably wouldn't be a good one anyways...

the story is, you're new in town and here to makes some cash and kill anything that gets inthe way... like i said, games like this don't have room for an online story... it's up to you to play the story however you want...

and yes, GTAO is a beta, we've all been beta testers, that's why we're already on patch 1.09, with 1.10 probably not too far away... in an ever-evolving experience, it will always be in beta...

but you'll never satisfy everyone, and i guess GTAO hasn't satisfied QD or massacre... if you're not willing to be sociable in an "online" game then you're never gonna understand just how fucking fun this game really is...

EDIT: didnt you have fun when you and me rode our steel horses across the map, from bar to bar?

GTA Online should have been everything we expect from GTA - but online. That's what Rockstar hyped, that's what the name implied. That isn't what we got.

I had fun when we played because of the context. I was playing with a friend, as members of an MC, doing MC-appropriate things, roleplaying all of it in my mind. We got drunk and rode around fucking shit up, as any good MC does. We had motivation. I don't get that anywhere else.

The whole reason for the MC idea was for roleplaying purposes. For me, it was meant to be the story GTAO is never going to give me.

Ya and no. The first trailer said some shit about unlocking new missions and meeting new characters. but it didnt say there was some kind of in depth storyline

I never got any gifts nor did I duplicate cars. I only started playing once they nerfed everything. If it wasn't for the $500k R* gift, my character would probably still be living in his free garage. It has been a grind for sure but I still enjoy it. I would enjoy it more if I could find a regular group of non-randoms to max a lobby out with but even by myself or with a couple of mates there is enough to keep me playing.

Sure they could make a number of improvements, which I am sure will come, once they sort out the issues caused by hackers and stuff.

I don't really see how you can moan about a FREE game...

so that's how you have to play online then... if that's what gives you pleasure then let's set up some MC events... if you're the president though, we're gonna need to hear you on the mic, just saying... sending text messages is a bit of a chore... then let's create some biker races, and some biker DM's and play those... and call up guys like ron to get missions that take on the lost or merryweather...

the good times are there man, you just have to set it up to see it... you have to create your own story, this isn't a bethesda game...

For those of you too lazy to read through this entire thread, don't worry. I have read it and I can sum it up quickly...

Some people will always find flaws, even when given exactly what they asked for.

Look, Rockstar was put in a box, but they did as they should. Do I miss my gifted 190 million dollars? Of course I do. Am I glad Rockstar removed it though? Yes. As much as I miss the money, it killed the game. Rockstar is doing their best to give us the best game and online experience ever. The first attempt of anything is never perfect. How many planes crashed before the first one successfully flew? How many cars didn't work before the first one drove? It's gonna take time. We need to be patient.

And not to be an asshole and call out Lord Q... but dude... Where is your massive online game? If it's so bad, why don't you go do it then. Again, don't mean to make an enemy here, but really.

I'm down for some MC role playing. Hell, all I've been dong since GTAO was released is role play, that's the magic. The Content Creator also aids this role play feeling, and it will do even more when the Mission Tools come out. There's loads of films i want to recreate epic scenes from, just like R* have done in the past GTA games. Even if the tools are limited at first, the enjoyment we all get when we have a full party is priceless, and that's the moment you realise you're part of an awesome crew in an awesome sandbox world!

This isnt the first game that has been online, your analogy makes no sense.

Im not a developer. I don't want to be. It would be like if you hired an electrician to wire your house, and when it didnt work and you said, "wtf" he responded "why dont you wire it yourself then"

Anyway, moving on from the idiocy...

Jesus QD, you sound like a 5 year old moaning over spilt milk.

It will take a lot for me to hate R* games or "knock them off my favourite list". It's all down to lack of knowledge, and amateur behavior. These guys have been making single player GTA games over 2 decades, and have mastered the sandbox. But now they've tried to make something ambitious enough, that their own status as a top developer has over-hyped it. Not to mention their advertisement resources.

Having an online component to your game isnt that ambitious. Call of duty has been doing it successfully for years

It's a fun game, which does what you'd expect it to do. The only drawbacks are lack of understanding of what makes an MMO work in its entirety. Rockstar North have just listened to the publishers and tried to give them what they want and then tried to balance that with what the fan wants, which has turned out to be a slow and painstaking process. The money and cashcard thing clearly wouldn't have been R*Norths intentions, and because of that one aspect alone, the whole game has stopped to a standstill because of hackers, and spoilt people wanting more money and items. If the game was completely free to begin with, and cash cards weren't being pushed into our faces, then the game wouldn't have been broke by hackers. And i'm sure we would have seen a lot more content for the game by now.

Heists, Stock Markets and all that stuff would have been available to us, if the team had more time to develop content instead of tackle the problems caused by 1. bad programming to start with, 2. the hackers fucking the game up, and 3. those damn shark cards.

I have faith in Rockstar's goal, that they want to create the biggest and most ambitious GTA game online. They promised to keep adding to it over time, and they need the fans to support and keep playing, or it will flop, and no longer be profitable to keep updating. Then you'll see GTAO turn into GTA IV online (on ps3 anyway), an empty shell of potential which never got any updates. I for one want to keep playing GTAO for years, but i also want new content to keep my playing, just like everyone else. But people these days are just too damn spoilt and demanding. The digital era is full of "i want, i get, right now!" kind of people, which is sad, it makes game development a tough world, and this is why stupid mobile and social gaming is on the rise...

Your mentioning stuff that might be pr has been promised but not yet delivered. With rockstars track record regarding gta 5, can really trust it..

I'm in the same boat as Tanner to some degree, I haven't been able to log many hours of gameplay, and didn't even get a chance to receive a random gift to spend on items I could keep post-fix. Earning money does feel like a grind sometimes, especially when I'm in LS Customs and looking at all the mods I can't afford (or haven't unlocked yet). On the other hand, I remember doing the Blueberry betting track exploit in San Andreas until I had so much money there was nothing left to spend it on, never mind the casino. So I can see why R* set GTAO up to find a way to keep the money flowing both ways...charging us for destructive events forces us to 'spend' money so we have a reason to keep earning it, and therefore keep playing the game.

Yeah, but everything costs soooo much.

I don't think the system is perfect by any means, but none of the adventures with GTAO so far have been anything dire enough for me to chuck my PS3 in the river and refuse to play anything by R* ever again.

You and others are exaggerating what i said....i didnt say i hated rockstar or wouldnt play any rockstar games. I said i lost faith in them and they're not my favorite developer anymore...

No one has a right to bitch about their hack money going away. They sure as hell spent more than they've earned so thats that.

Call it a hackers starter pack

Who cares about having a "right" to bitch. Rockstar fucked up, but instead of dealing with the consequences, they punished me by making me start all over...

Sure they could make a number of improvements, which I am sure will come, once they sort out the issues caused by hackers and stuff.

I don't really see how you can moan about a FREE game...

Last time i checked gta 5 costs 60 dollars, xbox online costs 60 a year... Its not free.

I didnt ask for a flawed online game....

i'm sorry, but what game isn't flawed? there's no such thing as perfect, even video game reviewers still find flaws in their perfect scored shit... i just don't understand why people are so upset with a flawed online system that was never even close to being ready for launch... i was actually impressed at how quickly they managed to get this giant clusterfuck in order... i mean, if you wanted the online experience that you're thinking of, with heists and all the add-on content that still coming our way, then you'd be waiting another year or so...

oh and by the way, heists were never promised early on, for those that have mentioned that... that's all i see in the comments on R*'s social feeds and never once did they say that... those are going to be add-ons (DLC), just like all the other content coming our way... with a massive launch like GTAO, i can clearly see why we're being spoon-fed content, it's just not ready to handle all of it at once... and i totally understand that...

GTAO is something that will continue to live on after every game they release... GTAV was only the launching pad and everyone just thought it would be ready to go... but it's not unfortunately, and most of us don't care because it's still a fucking blast to play anyways, and really, do you want to go back to playing IV? GTAO ruined IV's online stuff for me... i don't even think i could ever go back now...

My main problem is that they fucked up, and rather than just dealing with it and sucking it up, they reset everyone to essentially zero... I think a much better solution would have been to just fix the exploits, the increase the costs of spawning tanks/planes/ect...

People would eventually spend the money, and no one would feel shafted.

Fair enough but I got that value from the single player game and the Live subscription is not solely for GTAO.... I was never going to buy extra cash either...

I am actually surprised I enjoy GTAO so much - being a casual gamer, I guess I am easily pleased...

Not everyone had hacked money, so raising the cost would fuck players with real money or people just buying the game now. Now you're the one making no sense. R* was put in a box. They took the money you never should have had, away. Deal with it man. It's just a game

i'm pretty sure one of the online vids said that we would be able to hook up with friends/crew members and do heists. And the way they worded it, led me to believe it would be there from the start. .....from what i remember anyway....not gonna go look it up, don't care enough. might be wrong, but again, don't care enough overall, i just hope that heists comes in soon.

I'll only play online if friends are on. If no-one else is online I play story mode. Online alone is pretty boring, but with a group. I have never laughed so much playing any game.

The only people able to afford the tanks which cost over 1 mil were people who were gifted money...

The only box rockstar was put on was one they made themselves. I dont feel sorry for them.

Well yeah. Tanks should be expensive. You need to earn it. Otherwise they'd be everywhere... Once the hacked money got out they were. I got blown up by tanks constantly. Even though I had the money to buy one... I'm not high enough of a level. So I got butt fucked a ton by it. I joined a room one day, and drove out of my garage; immediately got blown up by a tank. I nearly shit myself.

Like that time we chased each other around for nearly an hour pistol whipping each other.

Playing with friends is the best thing about GTAO. Couple buddies and myself had hours of fun driving big rigs W/ trailers up the mount chiliad (sp?) trails. I've never laughed so hard. What other game can you fuck around in like that?
