DuPz0r 5361 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 I was going to get a tablet PC, but most of them suck and only have android on them, and at this time i can't afford a proper Windows tablet. So I've gotten a hold of a little netbook for my commuting pleasure. I've also decided to remove Windows OS completely, and I'm running Linux ubuntu OS straight from a usb stick. Meaning the HDD is completely usable for storage. Anyway, I've not really used a Linux based computer before, but I think it's good, and apparently safer to surf than any other OS. I just installed VLC media player on it, and i was wondering if anyone knows any other decent or useful applications/programs for Linux? many thanks, Duppeh
Psy 350 Report post Posted September 13, 2011 You can run Apache web server and MySQL on Linux... *only thing I've ever used*
sahoff22 4 Report post Posted October 31, 2011 Base Ubuntu really comes with most of the useful applications built in. VLC is pretty good, I would check out XBMC though, very cool UI for a media center. Other than that, I would say learn your way around the terminal, probably the most useful application on Linux when you know how to use it. I don't know if you're into programming at all, but Linux is especially convenient for installing compilers. Much less of a pain in the ass then it is in Windows.
