JustAn808 130 Report post Posted July 26, 2012 Rockstar has a specific direction in storylines with their titles and while giving the player the ability to choose little things throughout the storyline is a great feature, I just don't see them giving us that much control of the events in regard to characters. I predict they'd explore alternate characters through DLC's as they did in IV, which is the better way to go in my opinion.

TreeFitty 2631 Report post Posted July 27, 2012 Drew is correct. They are not the same car. There is even a white one in that scene with the Los Santos graffiti. edit: Since I'll probably need to post this anyway:
Rayge 689 Report post Posted July 27, 2012 It's funny how everyone knows the 'guy' as Ned Luke rather than his in-game name (They really should have named him in the trailer). I hope that name doesn't stick in my head whilst i play through, if he is the protagonist (which he probably will be). Exactly. If he does turn out to be the protagonist, many will know him as Ned Luke rather than the actual characters name. If so, it would've probably been smarter to release his name at the same time. Bundy 12 Report post Posted July 30, 2012 I really hope that old guy isn't the protagonist. It'll suck having to play as some old dude. Seeing as the chances of being able to go to the gym and get tattoos are quite high I doubt the old dude is the protagonist. It just wouldn't look right seeing him working out shirtless with tattoos all over his body. I'd like to see CJ make an appearance even if it's nothing major. Just that nostalgia feeling, ya know? DiO 4730 Report post Posted August 2, 2012 Not really predicting it but I'd like someone slightly more self-centered and sociopathic.Tommy was a good example. Johnny for the TLaD DLC fit that description better too. By a little better I mean more so than Niko. Even CJ from San Andreas gave a little bit too much of a fuck. being reluctant about doing fuck up things in certain cutscenes, but then you go around fucking up innocent civilians. And a sociopath can still be a good protagonist. Look at Alex from the movie clockwork orange. He was fucked up but you still felt bad for him when he was tortured listening to beethoven. So yah...someone a bit more loopy to justify being more of a heartless criminal.
Joe King 62 Report post Posted August 2, 2012 forgive me if someone has already suggested something like this, but this forum is too long to look through every post. im certain you play as more than 1 guy. theres the guy is the red convertible who i also think is the driver of the bugster van - how many missions are there when an npc drives? we also see the old guy in the blue car and the ned luke guy driving. im pretty sure those arent cutscenes, those are gameplay. i think its going to be like gta 4 with its dlcs except they are all part of the main game. each protagonist has their story that take place at the same time, but you have to play as all on the same gamesave. if you do too many missions with only 1 protag, missions will be blocked until you finish enough missions with another protag so the second protags story can catch up with the overall story. Bundy 12 Report post Posted August 2, 2012 Having two protagonists wouldn't be the best idea though. I have a feeling people would get pissed off not being able to play their favourite character and all that shit.

G-Lock 5 Report post Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Having two protagonists wouldn't be the best idea though. I have a feeling people would get pissed off not being able to play their favourite character and all that shit. Exactly! I say no to the 2 (or more) protag issue, fuck no even! I remember a lot of peeps havin the issue with RDR when at the end your the son (`Work ya dang legs!!`), so in that regard I hope they just implement one protagonist, (my money is on the younger hispanic guy in the trailer), so you can have the classic rise to money and power, which we all love the most!! Now that I think of it, it might be possible to get older in the game. So as when you start of your really young, as to when you approach the end of the storyline, you have aged a bit. Maybe a little rinkle line or something, or a scar you have attained during one of the bigger missions, halfway through the game. (Maybe reccuparate in a gameday or something, after youve been brought to a cabin in the woods, by allies, after completing the foregoing mission), then after that youve got a permanent mark. With the original GTA SA at the end of the storyline youve felt completely different as a gamer, because you went from a smalltime gangbanger to a secret/agent type slash musicmanager slash casino owner slash millionair, but your protag was basically the same as the beginning. (I always started training the hell out of cj from the first moment you were able), so for me there was no physical change in thats regard. Gregers07 43 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 I wouldn't be surprised If we had multiple main characters, I think the episodes were an experiment on where to take GTAV. The main thing I think they tested is how a pulp fiction-like structure would work in a single game, another thing I think they played with is the length of the game, not many people finished the original GTAIV but I'm guessing both episodes had a much higher completion rate due to how streamlined they were. So I think it could be possible to have 2-3 protagonists with only 75 well crafted missions split between them.
Bundy 12 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 Having multiple protagonists would mess with the whole customization thing in my opinion. People would also want to stick to one character.

I agree with that gta games had awayes have one character and if gta 5 have two protagonists it will be a total mess-in my opinium
Joe King 62 Report post Posted August 14, 2012 all i can say about the multiple protagonist issue, is look at the trailer. we see at least 3 different people speeding aroung in their cars. when have we ever had a cutscene of a major character driving around, with the playable character nowhere in sight? hondenbrokje1 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2012 i liked it how it was done in GTA 4 and the episodes. Just one main character in the main Gta 5, but make two episodes again with two different stories and main characters like TBOGT and TLAD.
Rayge 689 Report post Posted August 22, 2012 So now that the 6 new screenshots have released, has anyones opinions changed? I would say none of the characters clearly visible (MX guys, guy parachuting, guy biking or tennis players) look like Ned Luke. They may of course just be random peds. Can't really make a pod analysis here on holiday with no computer, I'll see in 3 days what I actually think.
Micromaster28 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2012 I don't think the protagonist will be Ned Luke's character. Reason being during the jewlery store heist during the trailer, that character wasn't driving the car, if you stop at 47 in the trailer you should get a glimpse of an african american/latino looking guy in a white muscle shirt in the drivers seat (as we all know the driver in GTA is the protagonist 90% of the time). Also worth noting the "guy in the red car" fits this describtion aswell, aswell as the guy running away from the police (although this snippet looks like an older fella). ManBeast 6 Report post Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) I think it will be one character, mostly likely the older guy from the trailer. BUT I do think there might a situation/mission where you control someone else for a brief period, like... L.A. GHOSTREETGODFREY 4 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 in my own opinion judging from all the screenshots so far i think dat the protagonist may be the african ameriacan guy in the last four screenshots and the parachute screenshot so last five
JoseAztecaz 3 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 i hope the protag is the guy in the red car fuck ned luke hes just about ready to pop his clogs how r we expected to play gta v with a 60 yr old man i mean come onnnn R*
-Hussain- 62 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 Maybe the Ned Luke character is just a NPC. He may be telling 'his story' to the main protagonist. I would hate to have more than 1 protagonist. If DLC does come out, maybe the same as GTAIV, but I dont want them to create DLC at the expense of the main story of the game, like I think they did with IV. I mean IV had less than 100 missions, and less than San Andreas. For me they should have about 150 missions related to the storyline. in my own opinion judging from all the screenshots so far i think dat the protagonist may be the african ameriacan guy in the last four screenshots and the parachute screenshot so last five African American is unlikely since they have already had that type of character. Most likely a latino american character will appear.
