From the Sounds of it...

I agree with that mate but think of the cool things that cud of been added if a large proportion of space wasnt taken up by scenery, like Mad Dooby's car mod ideas, strategical Bank Robberies, hell maybe even a small Las Venturas where u can own and develop ur own casino's, or I can wander a forest in the hope that i find an easter egg sasquatch

I know what you mean totally and I'd like more useful space but I do have a little soft spot for the countryside perhaps because i'm from the countryside haha either way it'll be amazing!

Suppose we can only see what the other trailer will bring, R* mentioned Southern Caiifornia and on Wikipedia S.C seems pretty big and has some decent places

I imagine Los Santos will be greatly expanded, like Liberty City was I believe from 3 to 4, if it is just to be based there. From Rockstar's announcement, I can't see a massive, 'SUPRISE! All of SA is in!' move happening.

The only thing I'm not so sure on is how is it gonna work if we can fly planes? When we get out of the city or countryside or where ever, what's gonna happen? Hate nothing more in games than getting to a border and hitting an invisible wall. Especially in a plane, plus this isn't GTA style, so I hope not. But then when I do get out, if it is too similar to San Andreas, when I do get over the mountain or whatever, I'm gonna be disappointed not to see the rest of San Andreas.

The Southern California thing is what I'm talking about.

Los Santos is the focus of the map, and outside of town is San Diego or something.

Just not San Fierro or Las Venturas sadly.

I would settle for a large LS with lots of things to do, whats getting me down is that with all that countryside I wonder what city life will be like, and what activities will it offer.

You may be onto something. Have another large town, Los Santos as the main city, and then valleys and badlands for the surrounding area.

I think that would be a great balance. And stretch the map enough to allow planes and heli's in there without feeling out of place.

Could it essentially be this..

Los Angeles- Large- 9m Population

Orange County, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino - between 2m- 3m Population- 3 out of these 4 as medium sized places maybe with San diego as the larger area with an aiport

with Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Imperial- Between 800,000 and 200,000 Population maybe these areas as the smaller places which is broken up with the countryside

Also note the use of an interstate numbered 5 in the trailer which in real life links LA with San Diego

I'm a little dissapointed with this but do you think we can fly planes? Seems silly to have planes with only 1 city. Why make Los Santos and not redo the whole Sa? Dissapointed but Im sure it will be great

Why not redo SA? We don't know for certain they haven't yet, R* are very ambiguous when it comes to releasing these statements.

However a few of the main reasons that have been thrown around are as follows;

  • Time constraints, remaking an entire new state of SA in next-gen graphics will be very time consuming even if R* have been working on it since 2008.
  • Disc space, the PS3 may fare better than the Xbox here but it all comes down to the amount of data they can fit on the final disc.
  • It would be "the ultimate game" and therefore any potential GTA VI would seem underwhelming compared to it, and that's not good for future profit margains.

^Yes, they almost ruin the franchise if they just made San Andreas again in HD. It will eventually happen, but not this generation of consoles me thinks.

I think GTA V will be good, I just hope it doesn't take itself so seriously as IV did. The Ballad of Gay Tony seemed to be more like the old GTA in that retrospect though.

And we now know it takes place in 2012.

Really? How do we know that fo' sho'?

Well we know that its deff not going to be in 2011 unless they hurry there asses up with a glitchy/buggy ass game with buildings flying and such..

Well it is MOST likely going to be in 2012 95% sure it will be.. It won't take two years.. But theres that possibility..

I think people forget the transformation Liberty City underwent from III => IV. I expect there'll be lots of complaints about it just being LS and the surrounding area, but it won't be anything like the one in SA. They'll make it work regardless of where it's set.

It's less the transformation, more the setting for me. LA is a boring dull city in real life. It looks the same, there's nothing iconic about it, aside from the obvious few (Hollywood Blvd., Santa Monica/Venice Beach and Downtown). LA is just a massive suburb in my eyes, with a small Downtown area which features four or five skyscrapers. That is pretty incomparable to NY's skyline and its variety of architectural suburbs.

Miami has a much more unique mixture of both NY and LA. Miami's skyline is far more interesting than LA's (more scrapers, the best of NY), the architecture of Miami is much nicer than LA's (SoBe, Little Havana, etc..) and the various bridges and islands that compose Miami could be a lot more interesting than one big suburban sprawl. LA has beaches, great, Miami has nicer beaches. LA has hills, again great, but Miami has real rural 'red neck' America and swamps, much more interesting in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be buying this the day it's released, but I'm just saying, LA is a poor choice, look at how boring LA based games have been in the past (L.A. Noire, Midnight Club L.A., True Crime LA, etc..). I'm just not sure how R* can make a boring city in real life, become an interesting one in a game.

  • What is your definition of boring and dull? A lot happens there on a daily basis.
  • Exactly, aside from what makes the city unique. That's like saying there is nothing iconic about Miami, apart from... everything that makes it what it is.
  • Maybe in your eyes it is, but other people have different opinions so not everyone thinks it's a boring and dull city.
  • Arguable, I mean personally I think a huge mountain behind the cit is pretty fucking awesome. But I must admit Miami's looks much better at night.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that more exciting events occur in the suburbs rather than on some bridges and islands.By the way, there is an island off the coast of LA.
  • I prefer grassy rolling hills to crocodile infested swamps, but that's also just my opinion.
  • Have you even been to LA? There are a lot of iconic things there.
  • This is not really to do with specifically LA, but California's environment is MUCH more diverse than Florida's'.
  • A lot of things are centered in LA; such as music, gaming, film, TV and things like that.

Hey, look at that, it is possible to disagree with someone without being a massive cunt. Well done, Marcus.

And I didn't want either of those cities, so I don't give a shit one way or the other.

What city were you looking forward to?

I would have preferred Boston, but it wouldn't really have mattered as long as it was a new city. I'm happy with Los Santos, I'd just like to see something new.
