Well according to CVG on their GTA 5 o'clock show that for the most part the fan made maps (the recent ones anyways) seems to be pretty much in line with what they saw in the preview. So it seem you guys are on the right track.

well, you know they may have. yes they use the word island, but that term can be used loosely. RDR, for example, could have been called an island as is was an isolated area separated from the (imaginary) outside world.

also, even though they said the current fan maps seem to be pretty accurate it does not mean that they are 100% accurate. they even said in the CVG video that there was a huge portion of the map that R* seemed to purposely avoid showing them.

so anything is possible... but i think it is an island.

If they're calling it an island after seeing the map from the character switch then I think it's pretty much an island... Which I'm fine with, since it's worked out fine in the past.

To me the only reason people don't want it to be an island, is because that wouldn't stay true to the geography IRL. At this poing, with everything we've seen, I don't really give a shit either way. The only thing that we've been speculating that an island would eliminate would be the 'other cities as DLC' theories, which seems like very wishful thinking to me anyways.

From what I heard they only called it an island because that is the word R* used in the demo. I do not think they saw the whole map, at least not in detail.

that said, I do not really care at this point. I will love it no matter how they work the map.

I think the previews saw the whole map when R* switched characters, I believe they said it zoomed out enough to see the entire map. Or at least that's the way the CVG guys made it sound...

Whole new city DLC would be a massive waste of resources, money and future-game potential.

If they were ever going to re-do Las Venturas, DLC would be the way to go. Venturas (or the real Vegas, for that matter) is pretty dull outside of the strip. It couldn't support a full game on its own.

Other than that, I agree. Any other city would be better as its own game.

Yeah, perhaps when they redo San Fierro they will also do Las Venturas then, with the main focus being on SF, of course.

I don't know about that. I lived in Vegas for a little while (in the Henderson area). It is generally pretty boring, but it can be a pretty interesting place. North Vegas is a crime ridden mess. Just outside West Vegas has those cool rock mountains (red rock). plus you got the old strip...I don't know it could be hit or miss depending on how they did it. I think the Strip alone could be enough to support a DLC.

I don't know, I remember meth being a big thing. We are talking about a DLC not a whole game so... there are those old MOB style homes you could buy. maybe some fun new wilderness areas (it is not all flat desert) and of course area 51 if they are going to include the surrounding area.

Looking back at SA LV was probably the least impressive town of the three. I just remember that it had the bog plane and the best freeways for racing.

Here's some useful info for Fitty and Pud to use for their maps:

So we jump. The freefall opens up our field of view: the game world is an island, hemmed in by an ocean beyond the city, and by a massive stretch of water - the Alamo Sea - behind us, to the north. Immediately to our right, on the west of the island, is a military base. Onscreen, there's an altimeter, giving us an idea of elevation, and three bars in the corner: green, blue and yellow. These are for your health, body armour and 'specials'. We'll talk more about that last one later on.

The closest thing to a new city we will ever see as a GTA V DLC is a smaller island. I always said a parody of Santa Catalina Island would make an awesome bit of content. They could have some awesome Shipwrecks around it, and some cool things to spend money on, including casinos. And i'd imagine some drug related Max Payne style shootouts wouldn't be bad either!

A bit off topic, but cool non-the-less.

Catalina would be a great addition, but I don't see it being enough for DLC. I mean for the most part the island is nothing but wilderness, sheep and bison. The only two towns on the island are Avalon and Two harbors, and TH is barely a town.

yeah but still this would be nothing but a micro-dlc and no comparison to the likes of TLAD/BOGT which is what most think of as a DLC in terms of content.

you can't just fill Catalina with enough shit to make it a fullblown DLC. Catalina, even with the missions you thought of, would be more like the DLC-cars in MCLA.

if R* gives us a whole new set of story, maybe with a new character or 2 and include Catalina with it, yeah that would be something worth the hassle imho

TLaD and BoGT was just a series of missions on the same map (which was still great). I meant a series of missions that incorporated Catalina island along with the main map, and a new bit of land... What i was trying to say was: R* wont waste their time creating a huge City for a DLC unless they intend to spent two or three years on it... Which may as well be a whole new GTA. A small island could be incorperated into the main map as a sort of extra desitination with slightly querky missions you may not have seen in the main game... For all we know, they could have already added an impression of Catalina Island into the main game anyway... Buy an ultimate safehouse on the rock, and store your luxury super yatch in the marina!

I got ya, yeah that would make sense. They toss in a cool Island to top off the DLC. Thinking about you could have some sweet off road races on a Catalina look alike sine most of the island is a bunch of dirt roads with a great ocean view.

you are right, it would probably take a while to build a whole new city. of course for all we know R* started building new city's some time ago in preparation for the DLC. This begs another question, has R* ever expanded one of their maps in their DLC. looking back I cannot think of any examples (except maybe Midnight Club??), I think they always just do something with the same map. Of course that doesn't mean they wont change that.

In rdr they added the crypts underneath the Escalera mansion for undead nightmare. Not really much of an addition, at all, but I like the idea of adding onto the map.

They could leave a chunk of the map as just boring forest where no animals spawn or something so no one really has any reason to go there. Then they could plop whatever they want there as long as it fits. Theme park? Stadium? Racetrack? Anything that would fit in the area alotted.

I said the same thing about a year ago. Glad to know we finally agree.
